| Heading out for my first Turkey hunt in South Dakota and Wyoming! Pretty excited; leaving on the 11th, any advice from any seasoned Turkey hunters? |

| Good luck, I look forward to seeing the picture from the hunt. I've never done it myself but looks like fun! |

It was a wicked hunt with six to 8 inches of snow our first two days in Wyoming/South Dakota,( we were on the border) we had one nice day and the rest rain. We stayed for a week. I have never had to hunt for something so hard and still come home empty handed. I unfortunately got skunked along with another member of our party but two of the guys did bring back nice toms. One of the guys was a first timer as well, and now he is hooked. I have to say I am too. Its pretty exhilarating when you get them to gobble to your call.
The hens and toms were mostly separated already we heard lots of gobbles but they but just couldn't get the big boys hot enough to come in. It was a great experience and although I felt like a member of the walking dead trying to climb those black hills at 3 a.m. every morning in that altitude, I can't wait to try my luck again next year.
Funny side note, we took a family vacation to the Black hills in South Dakota over the first week in July and actually had to stop and watch Turkeys cross the roads in front of us. RRRRRR! That was tough to swallow.
I'll try to post some pics but I've been having a hard time getting the pics to upload small enough. |
